indianapolis band led by organist bobby watley (ex-lonnie smith group) and driven by his funky jack mcduff-influenced playing. discovered in march 1971, funk inc had sent bob porter a demo tape which languished in a pile of other until the producer finally got around to working his way through the whole batch. the band s tape grabbed him as soon as he heard the first notes and the rest, as they say, is history. a quintet, funk inc s constituent members were leader bobby watley on organ, eugene barr on tenor saxophone, steve weakley on guitar, jimmy munford on drums and cecil hunt on congas. watley, the leader, worked originally as a drummer, with both winston walls and lonnie smith. he switched to organ in 1969 and was heavily influenced by jack mcduff. barr played his first professional gig with little milton and then went on to lead his own band prior to joining funk inc. munford worked with artists of the calibre of etta james, jerry butler and james brown. hunt had been with the coasters as well as playing with local california bands. weakley was one of the (then) new breed of guitarists whose debt owed as much to jimi hendrix as kenny burrell.

an incredible album from lo borges one of the best singer/songwriters on the brazilian scene of the 70s! borges first burst into the spotlight for his work on the club da esquina album by milton nascimento and his work as part of miltons corner club really helped shape the style of the more famous singer. yet borges is almost an equally great talent on his own with a soaring, soulful approach that’s every bit as great as the best nascimento material from the period and recorded in a wonderfully similar spirit! the sound here is completely sublime right from the start music that moves us, even if we can t understand the language of the lyrics like some of the best work by caetano veloso and gilberto gil. there’s maybe a bit more guitar than on some of the milton nascimento work of the period but used in a fuzzy way that slides in nicely with some of the jazzy phrasing of the instrumentation which is delivered with help from key contemporaries who include beto guedes, nelson angelo, toninho horta, and tenorio jr. the songwriting is amazing and titles include cancao postal, voce fica melhor assim, nao foi nada, calibre, faca seu jogo, toda essa agua,pensa voce, como o machando, and aos baroes.

the 7 year anniversary of dame-music continues! following the well-acclaimed various artists ep earlier this year, which included tracks from boo williams, the analogue cops and milton bradley vs bloody mary, dame-music is back and proud to present its 36th release, this time inviting two very special guests to share the record with label boss bloody mary. the melting point ep marks the fusion of three renowned producers including kink, thomas p. heckmann and bloody mary. it s no secret that these three are acid lovers, and their combination on this release shows three different takes on the acid sound. both kink and thomas p. heckmann need no introduction. bloody mary has followed their music for many years and the melting point ep marks the coming together of mary with two of her most respected acid producers, all on the one record. dame-music promises all three tracks will damage the dancefloor each in their own way, just be sure to play them loud. over the past 7 years, dame-music has shaped its identity by continuously releasing a distinct blend of techno and house music. 2018 shows no signs of slowing down, stay tuned!

the r.d.m. band, with singer milton campbell, were from maple shade, new jersey and recorded two virtue singles in 1969. they released their final 45 on the obscure zoom records label in the early 70s. “give up” and “how can i get in touch with you” can also be found on the tramp records album “virtue recording studios”.

these songs represent but a small sampling of the fruits of a flowering in brazilian creativity. the innovations in structure, lyrics and arrangements, combined with a very restrained but heartfelt intensity, are unique to brazilian pop music… and in their own way, are as radical, seductive and beautiful as the best english language pop.

rare brazil album made available again through mr bongo, incl. voce abuso & kabaluere. nice! a truly fantastic record that sounds the way it looks – psychedelic rock, samba-funk and tripped out mpb. features kabaluere as sampled by marcelo d2 on his hit qual e. arranged by rogerio duprat, featuring legendary guitarist lanny gordin. antonio carlos & jocafi were a very successful and famous brazilian writing duo, born in bahia. they worked with the likes of wilson simonal, rosinha de valença, trio mocotó, milton banana, toquinho and more. originally released on rca brazil in 1971, this was the duos debut lp. two versions of the album cover exist in brazil – this, the psyched-out, burnt out version, and a much less exciting photograph of the chaps, pressed to include the single desacato which became a popular hit in brazil and several european countries.
